Troubleshooting: Battery or Robot Power Issues

Problem

Robot will not power on, or robot will not stay powered on when power cord disconnected.

Solution

  1. Check the power supply (on the cord) and make sure it has a green light indicating power.

  2. Ensure that the power switch on the Robot’s foot is in the on position.

  3. Check to ensure that a battery is installed. https://robokind.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CSSD/pages/1327988746

  4. Ensure that there are red and/or green lights below the port where the power cord is plugged in on the back of the robot.

  5. Battery life is shorter than expected.

    1. New robots are designed to have a battery life of approximately 60 minutes, however that duration may be shorter under heavy usage or when batteries have aged.

    2. Replace the battery that has been installed in the foot of the robot and allow it to fully charge.

  6. If still having difficulty and a battery is installed:

    1. Ensure that the battery has charged to full capacity (at least 1 hour)

    2. Try removing the battery and see if that makes a difference in being able to power on the robot using the power switch.

  7. If unable to resolve issue, please create a ticket at https://robokind.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/5/group/23/create/60 with the robot serial number. https://robokind.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CSSD/pages/1307312969

Tip: A robot will charge it’s battery whether or not it has been powered on.

Tip: Robot’s do not need to be disconnected from power when the battery is full.

Advanced Troubleshooting (Technician’s only)

  1. If possible, check the power supply to see if it is outputting 15 volts of power using a multimeter on the barrel jack.

  2. If available, connect an HDMI Monitor to the port on the back of the robot and see if you get any messages when it is powered and turned on. If it’s not getting power you won’t see anything but if there is any other sort of error, please convey that to RoboKind.
