2 Apple iPad tablets configured with the RoboKind Companion 3.2 application RoboKind Companion App Installation and Update Guide (iPads)
New in Beta!, customers may now use a web browser and companion.robokind.com in place of the need for an iPad; for example the facilitator/teacher can facilitate the lesson from a laptop while a student used an iPad or vice versa. See RoboKind Software Release Notes 2021.027 - RoboKind Web Companion Beta for details.
The teacher/facilitator giving the lesson must have received an RK Central 3.x account and be able to log in to central.robokind.com and see their assigned classroom/students.
If a customer is moving from a previous version of our software and using the portal.robokind.com website, then the following checklist must be utilized. RK Central 3.x Platform - Pre migration check list
If planning to teach lessons with with a physical robot in addition to avatar - The robot must be powered on, connected to the network, and have completed the “Update Robot” process. RoboKind Quick Network Setup Guide How-to Update the Robot
Note that to conduct lessons remotely, it is expected that there would be a video conference of some fashion in progress (Zoom, Chime, WebEx, etc.) to monitor the students progress.

*Pairing codes expire within 10 minutes, so pause at this point if the student tablet is not already updated and ready.
Assign a Nickname or alias for the student tablet, and click Generate Code.
We recommend a Nickname or alias that describes the scope of the students that might be sharing that tablet, for example “Classroom A”.
We recommend labeling a tablet according to the nickname that has been assigned to it.
The 6 digit code that is provided after tapping Generate Code will be needed during the Student tablet setup.
After the pairing code has been written down, click the Back button.

Starting a Lesson
From the facilitator tablet, select the alias of the student tablet in the column on the left.
In the Select a Student Tablet panel on the left, select the student tablet that you have paired.
If a student tablet has been paired, and is not appearing in the list, see Session setup screen not showing student tablet
In the Select a Robot column on the right, you may select a robot or Use Virtual Avatar. If you select the virtual avatar option, both you and the student will see a friendly virtual version of Milo teaching each lesson.
If you are running a lesson with a physical robot and the robot is not appearing in the list, please troubleshoot using the following steps:
Make sure that Milo is powered on
Run a network test and ensure that all tests are passing.
Go to Utilities - Update Software and update the robot if prompted to do so.
Restart the robot and wait 5 minutes.
If the above do not resolve the issue, please submit a support ticket using Robot Registration Support Request. How-to Find a robot's serial number
Additional troubleshooting information at Robot is not listed on the session setup screen
On the Select Classroom page, select the classroom and student who will be taking the lesson.
If you have selected “Virtual Avatar” the facilitator and student will see a virtual representation of Milo.
If you have selected a physical robot, then there will not be an avatar, and the selected robot will direct the lesson.
On the facilitators tablet, use the side bar menu to access tools such as stopping a lesson or switching to a calm down tool
Main Menu Options
During a lesson, you cannot access the main menu. To perform these tasks, you must first use end lesson from the side bar menu and complete the post lesson report screen.
The main menu can be accessed when logged in as a facilitator/teacher, but while not actually running a lesson. To access this, choose the round circle with your initials in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
The Main menu contains several actions that can be useful:
RoboKind Central: Opens the http://central.robokind.com website in the iPad web browser. This is useful if you need to add or manage teachers, classrooms, and students.
Help Desk: A link to our support site with documentation and a “Contact Us” button at the bottom of the page.
Change Pin: For use in more easily signing into the app in the future.
Switch User: Provides several options, including switching a tablet to student mode, switching users (to select a different account to sign in with), Continue (which cancels the switch user screen), and Log Out.
Change Devices: Returns user to the session setup screen where a new student tablet, different robot, or the avatar option can be selected.
Log Out: Logs out the current user. This is highly recommended for use when a tablet or robot will be subsequently be used by a different teacher.
