Release Information

This is a major release to our robots4autism product, which empowers teachers to facilitate lessons remotely as well as in person by having a choice of using physical robots or an avatar when starting lessons.

The avatar is an onscreen simulation of Milo which can be used for remotely facilitated lessons. You will be able to connect to your students' tablets, run lessons, and - most importantly - make progress on IEP goals regardless of student location.

This release also has improvements to ease the pairing process, eliminate the need for facilitators to sign into student tablets, and to eliminate the requirement that tablets & robots be connected to the same network.

See documentation and update information at RoboKind Central 3.2 - Update Guide.

For more information about our new student quick reports announced under this release, see https://robokind.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CSSD/pages/1497694445.

Device pairing & Registration

This release eliminates processes which required tablets and robots to be physically present in the same room, same network, and able to scan the QR codes or look up the IP addresses of the other devices.

Replacing these processes:

Legacy Customer Advisory

Our latest releases are only available to customers who have migrated to our robots4autism 3.0 platform, including the https://central.robokind.com web portal and the RoboKind Companion 3 application.

Legacy system support will be disabled at the end of the 2020/2021 school year.

Please see our RK Central 3.0/3.2 Platform - Pre migration check list for instructions on moving to the new platform.

Known Issues

In case of network issues or application time out, it may be necessary to close and re-open the RoboKind Companion Application on the tablet.

Tip: To close an application on an iPad, double click the home button, then slide the application towards the top of the screen until it is removed. You can then re-start the application.

If using Change Devices from the facilitator side bar menu, the student tablet session is ended. The student button will need to be pressed to re-enter student mode on the student tablet.

There are known enunciation issues on the words “body” and “who” in the Conversational Dynamics Module 3 - Lesson 4.

Additional Updates

We expect to make continuing refinements to the application in the coming weeks. Customers are encouraged to update their applications to the latest version, keeping in mind that both the facilitator and student tablets must be updates to the same version before they will work correctly together.
