Introduction
If you have been directed to this page, your organization is looking to install one ore more robots and iPad’s to utilize RoboKind’s education technology platform for autistic students. Please consider making the following changes to facilitate a smooth product trial or implementation.
Basic Preparations:
The e-mail addresses auto@robokind.com and support@robokind.com should be white listed in any e-mail filtering software.
For any web content filtering software that is installed, verify that http://www.robokind.com , learn.robokind.com, and www.robokind.us are classified as educational software.
Any MDM (mobile device management) software should be configured so that iPad’s will automatically download the latest version of the Apple AppStore app named “RoboKind Companion 3”
Please provide the following networking information to the organization contact who has requested this assistance:
Which WiFi SSID should the robots connect to?
Note that our robots may not work with hidden SSID’s, SSID’s with international characters, or apostrophe’s in the SSID
Does this WiFi SSID support 2.4 Ghz, 5.0 Ghz, or both?
RoboKind will provide adapters to organizations that need to exclusively connect using 5 Ghz WiFi.
Please confirm the WPA or WPA2 pre-shared key / password with which the robots should connect.
RoboKind will provide adapters to organizations that need to exclusively connect using 5 Ghz WiFi.
Please confirm that firewall ports have been opened so that robots will be able to send port 80 and port 8080 traffic to *.robokind.us (including downloads.robokind.us, auth.robokind.us, data.robokind.us, cdn-api.robokind.us, and d23kggeguwanja.cloudfront.net)
Networking Requirements Documentation:
Requirements:
Recommended Internet speed of 5Mb/s or greater.
10/100 Ethernet or 2.4Ghz WiFi connection for robot
Tablets & Robots must be able to establish outbound connections on TCP ports 80 and 8080 to *.robokind.us (including downloads.robokind.us, auth.robokind.us, data.robokind.us, cdn-api.robokind.us) and d23kggeguwanja.cloudfront.net.
Unsupported Configurations:
WiFi networks with a captive portal that require an additional login (for example with guest or visitor networks)
WiFi SSID’s that are hidden
WiFi SSID’s that have international characters or apostrophe’s
WiFi networks using WEP security (not recommended/supported due to security vulnerabilities)
Tethered WiFi connections must not be in “Low Data” mode
Security Considerations:
Some organizations have opted to install robots in a dedicated WiFi network which is firewalled from other organization devices, which is a supported configuration, and no additional firewall rules are required to allow this.
Some organizations have opted to utilize enterprise WiFi configurations authenticating using a directory service with username/password or certificates. While we do support many similar configurations (Not including PKCS#12/.cer), we caution that it is currently difficult to troubleshoot these setups from our robots, and we recommend testing before deciding on a specific approach and authentication method. Advanced Robot WiFi Networking Guide
Most organizations have incoming firewall ports blocked, meaning that RoboKind has no ability to connect to and support robots directly except as allowed by the organization. In cases where advanced troubleshooting is required (most common with Enterprise wifi configurations), RoboKind may request that firewall rules be temporarily adjusted to allow connections from the robot(s) to UDP port 1194 at cypress.robokind.us (72.249.182.162).
This guide is written for the robots4autism version 3.2 product. If configuring robots for use with our STEM product, see RoboKind Quick Network Setup Guide - Legacy.
Note that RoboKind does have efforts in progress to make it easier to troubleshoot enterprise WiFi connections from the robot, and this document will be updated when those changes are in place.
