How-to Connect your Robot to 5GHz WiFi
The R25 Robot does not natively support 5Ghz WiFi networks and it is recommend to connect your robot to 2.4Ghz WiFi for wireless connectivity. If your organization only allows 5Ghz WiFi or if you have signal strength issues with 2.4 Ghz, then you may request an external 5Ghz WiFi adapter from RoboKind using support.robokind.com and the Contact Us link. Upon receipt of this external adapter, the following instructions detail completing the 5Ghz setup process.
Instructions
Ensure that you have an external USB 5Ghz WiFi adapter received from RoboKind.
Robots should be on version 3.5.2 or later to use a 5Ghz adapter. See How-to check your robots software version How-to Update the Robot
Enable the external adapter for use on the robot:
Plug the External 5GHz Wireless Adapter into the robot's rear panel USB port.
On the robot control panel select Utilities > Network > Wireless Adapter > Use External and confirm reboot.
When the robot reboots, it will be using the external adapter and will be able to connect to 5GHz networks. It will continue to allow using existing configured networks if they supported both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz connections.
If your desired 5GHz network uses a different SSID from the one(s) you have configured, configure using RoboKind Quick Robot Network Setup Guide.
Note that if the robot stops connecting to the network on a given day, check to make sure the adapter is still present and undamaged.
Robots in “External” mode will not be able to connect to any WiFi network unless an external adapter is connected. Switch the robot back to Utilities > Network > Wireless Adapter > Use Internal if the adapter is not available or not needed.
