Introduction
If you have been directed to this page, your organization is looking to install one or more social emotional learning robots and iPad’s to utilize RoboKind’s education technology platform for autistic students, or students learning and practicing STEM concepts with avatars and robots. Please consider making the following preparations to facilitate a smooth product trial or implementation.
Preparations:
Please see our RoboKind Networking Requirements and Security Considerations page to confirm compatibility with your network settings.
Note that for our STEM & RoboKind Controller applications, the RoboKind R25 robot will communicate directly with the iPad(s) using these applications. As such, switch or router settings such as Port Isolation will prevent these applications from working.
The individuals who will be configuring the robots (hands on) will need to know the correct network settings to utilize. Please ensure that they have the following information:
Which WiFi SSID should the robots connect to?
Does this WiFi SSID support 2.4 Ghz, 5.0 Ghz, or both?
For WPA or WPA2:
Please confirm the WPA or WPA2 pre-shared key / password with which the robots should connect.
For Enterprise with username/password:
The username and password that should be utilized.
For Enterprise authentication with certificates: See additional information on supported certificate types on page Advanced Robot Networking Guide.
Note that for our STEM product, robots must be on the same network as from which students and teacher computers will be running the lessons.
the iPad’s and Robot’s will need to be on the same WiFi SSID in order for STEM & RoboKind Controller applications to work. This requirement does not apply to our robots4Autism Companion App 3.
The e-mail addresses auto@robokind.com and support@robokind.com should be white allow listed in any e-mail filtering software.
For any web content filtering software that is installed, verify that www.robokind.com , learn.robokind.com, and robokind.us are classified as educational software.
Networking Requirements Documentation:
...
Requirements:
Recommended Internet speed of 5Mb/s or greater.
10/100 Ethernet or 2.4Ghz WiFi connection for robot
Tablets & Robots must be able to establish outbound connections on TCP ports 80 and 8080 to *.robokind.us (including downloads.robokind.us, auth.robokind.us, data.robokind.us, cdn-api.robokind.us) and d23kggeguwanja.cloudfront.net.
Unsupported Configurations:
...
WiFi networks with a captive portal that require an additional login (for example with guest or visitor networks)
...
WiFi SSID’s that are hidden
...
WiFi SSID’s that have international characters or apostrophe’s
...
WiFi networks using WEP security (not recommended/supported due to security vulnerabilities)
...
Tethered WiFi connections must not be in “Low Data” mode
...
Note that the WiFi adapters built into RoboKind R25 robots have MAC addresses that being with “2E”, even though we do not randomize the MAC addresses. If you are blocking MAC addresses in this range, please alert the team that they will need to use the 5 Ghz adapters from RoboKind.

Security Considerations:
Some organizations have opted to utilize enterprise WiFi configurations authenticating using a directory service with username/password or certificates. While we do support many similar configurations (Not including PKCS#12/.cer), we caution that it is currently difficult to troubleshoot these setups from our robots, and we recommend testing before deciding on a specific approach and authentication method. Advanced Robot WiFi Networking Guide
Most organizations have incoming firewall ports blocked, meaning that RoboKind has no ability to connect to and support robots directly except as allowed by the organization. In cases where advanced troubleshooting is required (most common with Enterprise WiFi configurations), RoboKind may request that firewall rules be temporarily adjusted to allow connections from the robot(s) to UDP port 1194 at cypress.robokind.us (72.249.182.162).
